A Tourist and Visitors Guide of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Capital City of
Oklahoma

When statehood came for Oklahoma on November 16, 1907, Oklahoma City became a
center of commerce. In 1928, oil was discovered in Oklahoma City making the city
the world's newest boom town. Oil continues to be one the most important players
in the city's economy.
Today, Oklahoma City sprawls across 625 square miles of America's heartland.
The population numbers in the metro area is over a million which is one third of the entire state's.
Oklahoma City is the 29th-largest city in the nation (by population),

The Oklahoma Capitol is surrounded by working oil wells. The well in front of
the entrance is nicknamed "Petunia #1" because the drilling began in the middle
of a flower bed.

There are many beautiful government type buildings in the state capital area. Here are just two of them.
If you have the time, take some of the offered tours in the area. You will be
happy that you did. Take your camera along also.
Weeping Jesus statue across from the Memorial
No trip to Oklahoma City can be complete unless you take the tour of the
Oklahoma City National Memorial. The Memorial & Museum was created to
honor those who were killed, those who survived and those changed forever by the
1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City.

These photos give you a good view of the area, but it will not be totally clear
until you have walked the paths and viewed the exhibits. Then you will
understand what happened on these grounds and lives have been changed forever.
